HISTORY
You may wonder why there are so many castles in the Loire Valley.
During the Hundred Years War, French troops started to build fortresses to defense against the English army.
Let's hop to the Renaissance times, with François 1er. He discovered the italian art and architecture. As the forteresses were not in used any more, they were modified to become the residence of the kings, built with all the beauty of the italian Renaissance.
Leonardo da Vinci settled near Amboise and gave all his great advice and knowledge to build .
We call this region : the Garden of France !

* Chambord
