What should you prepare to travel to France ? Check your documents

Updated: May 13, 2021

That's it ! You know where you want to go and France will be your destination !

Good choice ;)

Whether you prefer the intense activity of Paris, the gourmet trip to Lyon, the wine degustation of Bourgogne or the beautiful landscape of the French Riviera, this trip will offer you unforgettable memories !

To facilitate your entry, let's check together the documents you need to travel to France :

  • PASSPORT

Unless you are European (and only an ID card is needed), you will need a passport.

  • VISA

If you are coming for a touristic trip less than 3 months, a visa is not necessarily required. Depending on your nationality, you may not need one.

Refer to the list of countries below.

If you plan to stay more than 3 months, then a visa for long stay is required. Contact the French Embassy of your country to have more information.

  • PROOF OF YOUR FINANCIAL CAPACITY

This is very important. You will need to justify how you will be able to pay your expenses in France. Of course, a credit card is the most common use in this case.

  • PROOF OF YOUR DATE OF RETURN

A valid plane or train ticket with a date of return

  • HEALTH INSURANCE

You will be asked an insurance who can cover all your medical expenses during your trip

  • PROOF OF YOUR ACCOMMODATION

You will asked all the details about where you will be staying.

If you booked a hotel, an appartment or a guesthouse, print all your confirmation documents.

If you stay at friends' house, you will need an accommodation certificate . It costs 30€ (with fiscal stamps) and is to be filled by the person who will be your host.

You can download it here and return it to the mairie with the documents needed.

These information are the same whether you want to travel to France, to Monaco or to the overseas departments (Guadeloupe, Martinique, Réunion,....)

I hope these information helped you.
